According to Psychology Today, a new study carried out by Jan-Emmanuel De Neve of the University College London, has explored the link between individuals level of happiness and their genetics.

Researchers looked into a gene called 5-HTTLPR, also known as the ‘depression gene’ due to the suggestion that short forms of the gene inhibit levels of the hormone which can invoke depression.

It goes without saying that happiness is not just dependent on this gene but multiple external factors too. However, research has suggested that genes can  play a role in the levels of happiness, suggesting that the 5-HTTLPR gene can influence more positive emotions, including optimism!
