Moschino will use our Original Smiley for their manhole cover in iconic Milan streets via Montenapoleone and via S.Andrea from January 2015.
As part of the cultural initiative to celebrate Milan hosting Expo 2015 in May this year, Italian curator Monica Nascimbeni, has launched a unique exhibition of street art entitled “Sopra il Sotto –Tombini Art raccontano la Città Cablata” (“Over The Under – Manhole Art Tells The Story Of A Cabled City”) a cultural initiative to showcase Manhole Art through manhole covers designed by some of the great protagonists of the Italian fashion world. The project is sponsored the Municipality of Milan and in partnership with the Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana (The National Chamber for Italian Fashion) and Oxfam Italia.
From January 2015 iconic Milan streets via Montenapoleone and via S.Andrea will feature 24 unique and original artistic designed manhole covers that have been hand-carved and hand-painted. Each site has been specifically conceived and created by the stylists or designers that were invited to take part to the project.
The team at Smiley were absolutely delighted to see that current partner Moschino had decided to showcase our iconic Original Smiley for their own manhole cover, putting our brand alongside theirs and next to the powerhouses of Italian and global fashion that includes; Giorgio Armani, Just Cavalli, Missoni, Prada, DSquared2, Versace, Valentino, Emilio Pucci and Ermenegildo Zegna amongst others.
Special attention has been given throughout this project to highlight to the interaction of art and fashion within the urban context of technological innovation.
