Smiley Kids, the much-anticipated foray into animated kids TV by Smiley, showcased to the trade at several major International shows at the end of 2015, including MIPCOM and BLE. Major international licensees in the toy, publishing and promotional industries were treated to a sneak preview of the show’s trailer, whilst the team at Smiley also showcased a taster from a new range of products and style guides that will launch alongside the show’s release in 2017.
Smiley Kids will create a platform for Smiley to become the first global brand to open pre-school kids to the concept of emotional Intelligence (EQ) through a variety of multi-media platforms and licensing opportunities that will include TV, digital, toys and publishing.
This exciting show boasts a stellar team that includes production by OuiDO! Productions (ALVINNN!!! and the Chipmunks, Monchhichi, Sonic Boom), exclusive distribution through PGS (Iron Man, Playmobil, Le Petit Prince) and editorial by Theresa Plummer-Andrews, former Head of Acquisitions, Animation and Co-Productions for CBBC and CBeebies.
Smiley are also partnering on this project with Dacher Keltner, who is an expert in the field of emotional intelligence and a professor of psychology at the University of California and is most famous for his best-selling books “Born to Be Good” and “The Science of a Meaningful Life”.
Although the TV show is currently in pre-production and not due to broadcast until 2017, the series has gained major momentum with leading broadcasters in over 100 countries as discussions have begun months before the project is officially launched to trade.
